Half Way There
SpaceShipOne has just completed the first of two flights needed to win the X-Prize. I've got my fingers crossed!

2009 is About Friggin Time
This just in: the undisputed king of Latenight TV (that's Conan O'Brian) is set to take the reigns of "The Tonight Show" once Shitty McNotfunny (I mean Jay Leno) retires in '09. Jeff Zucker had some line about O'Brian being the obvious Heir-apparent, but still manages to slight Conan with an off-handed remark about the one-that-got-away (Jon Stewart.) Jeff Zucker is a moron, and I'm amazed that NBC hasn't lost MORE of its viewers during his stewardship of the network.

So this announcement begs the question: who will replace Letterman (who can't have too many more shows in him?) Or even more pressing, who will fill Craig Killborn's shoes in the already vacant "Late Late Show?"

Tiny, Tiny Brains
Cyber-Rats will soon be unleashed (ok, I don't think they actually keep rats on leashes) during disastar situations to help locate survivors trapped in rubble. The rats track humans by scent, which is monitored by a neural implant stuck in the rat's tiny brain, and then their location is communicated bck to the human masters via a radio transmitter.

One Ring...
Tonight Jules and I are going out to the "Lord of the Rings Symphony" at the Hollywood Bowl. From what I can tell it is a re-purposing of the Three movie's score into a six movement symphony (with over a hundred musicians on stage at times.) The music is supplemented by projections of Alan Lee and John Howe's conceptual art. Should be pretty interesting, and I couldn't ask for a nicer evening to see a show at the Bowl!

Can I have One Please?
I don't thinks it is quite worth $70+shipping, but boy would I love on of these!

Not Dead Yet…
Still here, though I’ve evidently dropped down to weekly postings… Not a whole lot of excitement happening, though Jules and I did (finally) watch Garden State over the long-weekend. I was very impressed by Zach Braff’s direction and script and greatly enjoyed the film; which was very much in the vein of Wes Anderson’s films hyper-real films. The story culminates in a really delicious turn into whimsy that I felt elevated the script above run-of-the-mill writer/director fare. But yeah, other than that…

Like a Thousand Burrowing Shrews
My brain-stem hurts. All week I’ve been metabolizing the boss, the deadlines, the incessantly ringing phones, and the mountains of shit into tightening knots in my back and shoulders. That tension has slowly climbed up my vertebrae and now the steely-grip is pressing my brain against the top of my skull. The pain isn’t blinding or nauseating, just dull and persistent, so it’s not a migraine, which actually kind of frustrates me. If it were, I could just write it off and dope-up, but as it is I have to accept that it is stress (and therefore work) related (tough for me because I pride myself on being fluid and laid-back.) But there is good news. Today is Thursday, which means only 9 more hours until the (blessedly long) weekend. I have a bottle of gin and a fresh legal pad just waiting for the hours and hours of freedom that lays just over my horizon. Jules has had her own albatross this past week, in the form of nine-straight days in the café trenches. So she is looking forward to the pinko holiday even more than I am (and deserves it WAY more than I do, I might add.)
